TAMARA DE LEMPICKA

(1898-1980)

Born in 1898 in Warsaw, Tamara de Lempicka is an iconic artist of the Art Deco movement. Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Paris after fleeing the Russian Revolution, she quickly established herself as one of the most sought-after portraitists of the 1920s and 1930s.

Her style, instantly recognizable, blends Cubist influence, neoclassical precision, and a modern aesthetic inspired by cinema and fashion of her time. Beyond her famous paintings, her drawings offer a more intimate perspective on her work. These pieces reveal her precise and expressive line work, capturing the sensuality and elegance of her subjects. They attest to her creative process and mastery of drawing as a fundamental step in her art.

Exiled to the United States in the 1940s, Lempicka continued her career with a stylistic evolution toward a more abstract art, before passing away in 1980 in Mexico. Her work continues to captivate today with its boldness and timeless refinement.
